The
Awards
Every
year, the Men Stopping Violence Awards Dinner recognizes individuals
who are leaders in seeking safety and justice for women.
The
Kathleen Carlin
Justice
Seekers Award
This
award, named for the founding executive director of Men Stopping
Violence, is given to someone whose life's work is in the public
arena and who has played a key role in the work of ending violence
against women and children.
Recent
recipients of the Justice Seekers Award have been The Baroness
Scotland of Asthal, QC , a Member of Parliament who was
responsible for the passage of comprehensive domestic violence legislation
in Great Britain, Dr. Beverly Guy-Sheftall, author,
scholar and founding director of the Women's Research and Resource
Center at Spelman College, and Eve Ensler, award-winning
playwright and creator of VDay.
The
True Ally Award
This
award recognizes that violence against women will not end until
men of conscience use their influence to support the work of organizations
like Men Stopping Violence. The person receiving this award has
shown himself willing to take a stand for women's safety.
Past
recipients of this award are U.S. Sen. Joe Biden,
author and educator Paul Kivel, and developer and
civic leader Harold A. Dawson, Jr.

The
Men Stopping Violence
Annual
Awards Dinner
Honoring

Natasha Trethewey
George
McKerrow
On
October 11, 2008, we will gather at the Atlanta History Center to
celebrate 26 years of work to end violence against women. This year's
Kathleen Carlin Justice Seekers Award recipient is Natasha
Trethewey, winner of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for poetry.
George
McKerrow, philanthropist and CEO of Ted's Montana Grill,
will receive the 2008 True Ally Award.
The Awards Dinner is Men Stopping Violence's main fund-raising event
of the year, but just as importantly, it is a time to acknowledge
the work of those who are committed to ending violence against girls
and women. This fun and inspiring event is also an opportunity to
share what we do with our allies.
Several
thousand men are affected each year through Men Stopping Violence's
training and outreach programs, and we believe that these men are
beginning to make a fundamental difference in our culture. Community
support is what makes it all possible.
Join
us! We would sincerely be honored by your attendance and support
of this fun and inspiring event.
